busy summer...

Sorry! I have been ultra busy working at the placement and working along side for my final uni collection... I have finally had an idea of what it's going to be based upon. It will be based on the Mughal and Mahabharat period of Indian history.

I have got started on the work but not quite feeling it yet. Although, I have been working on another project given to us from uni for Abercrombie and Fitch which I have loved!!!

I know I haven't been posting for a while, but I have just moved back home to Manchester for the summer and have had to sort so many things out! I am actually still living out of my suitcase, I think I will be living like that until I leave in again in September...

Anyway good news...I got the placement yayyyy, so excited I finally start on Monday, cannot wait! Will try and get lots of photos. Just waiting for results of my 3rd year of uni now.

factory worker to fashion designer

I saw the most amazing programme called "Faking It" today which was aired quite a while back on Channel 4. I watched it on their website http://www.channel4.com/programmes/faking-it/4od#2923127 and it was just too awesome for words especially if you are aspiring to become a fashion designer.

So the story goes that Mich a regular electric engineer from Leeds who works in a soft drinks factory sets out to make it big in London in the fashion world where in four weeks time of taking up the challenge to create a collection he would be judged by some of the top names in the fashion industry...one of whom was Matthew Williamson.

He was assigned a mentor who teaches at Central St Martins in London to help him along the process; that meant everything from giving him a makeover to ehlping him with his designwork and being it to reality. He was also assigned a pattern cutter and someone to make the garments for him to take it from his 2D drawings into real life pieces.

I must say he did fabulously well especially because he had nothing to do with the fashion world at all and it was really inspiring to see that. I goes to show you don't need a degree like I am working on to make it big in the industry just the right guidance and getting to know the right people! Regardless I think i will still be finishing of my degree...

Well anyway the point of the programme was for the judges at the end to point out whole they thought were faking the profession of being a designer and congratulations to Mich because he was actually wasn't pointed out to being the faker of the profession. He is an extremely talented person who could most definitely pursue a career in fashion in my opinion if he did this again.

ellesse

I found out yesterday evening that because I hadn't included any research for my Ellesse design they weren't too keen on the designs; so they gave me another chance which is so nice of them!
Did you know Ellesse has just completed their 50th anniversary, I didn't! I found it very beneficial to look at they company and the research I found was phenomenal, such interesting pieces. They were a massive brand in the 80s for casual sportswear and still are still using 80s influences which I think is a great selling point because they are keeping so true to their heritage.

The above images are those from the Autmn/Winter 2010 collection from Ellesse

The above is the re-design that I have done for Ellesse

dissertation

Type, type, typing away! I had to go to the library today to return and re-renew books that I had fine on; £20! I could have bought some gorgeous shows for that much. Speaking of shoes I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Vivienne Westwood plastic shoes, take a look at these beauties...

They are absolutely stunning, I may buy some once I save enough money. Anyway back to the dissertation, it's about whether fashion and the media have a positive affect on the shape of the female form. I know the answer is no but I will be looking at the different decades all from the 20th century.

I neeedddddd those shoes!

morning of nails

Woke up way too early, so decided to catch up on the latest Come Dine with Me and my nails. My inspiration came from mardi gras and summer if we ever get it in Newcastle again.

I did these nails using NailStar two way pens which aren't the best of quality they have a very chemically enhanced scent to them but they do the job, and they were a bargain off ebay to buy.

weekend in venice

Venice was stunning! What a beautiful place. The architecture, views, food and of course the beautiful people. I swear everywhere you turn people are dressed uber elegant, even if it's someone just walking his dog. I have never seen so much Dolce & Gabanna and Prada in one place and that too on one person in most cases. I went with family but we went past a little Turkish cafe where they had naan breads in the shape of faces was so cute.

Not only was the scenery beautiful the view from the plane was too. We flew over the Alps and they are absolutely stunning.

The architecture was immense. So glorious and for those who have played Assassins Creed 2 will feel like you are actually in the middle of the game as for those who aren't following what I am saying part of the game was set here. I actually felt like wanting to climb the buildings it was surreal being somewhere there a game was set.

waiting game

Desperately waiting for the week to arrive so that I can find out if I have got a placement guaranteed for over the summer holidays! I am so excited that I may be getting to design t-shirts for Ellesse. It's awesome, they had sent me a brief to design four t-shirts in three different colours. I have attached an image to this post let me know what you all think!

welcome to my blog!

So I should really be focusing on my dissertation right now but...I really have an awfully low concentration span. I decided to create a blog instead which I have been wanting to do for a long, long time. My passion alongside fashion and print are nails. It helps me comprise my two most favourite things in the world colour and pattern.

I will be adding some images of the nail designs that I have done so far and cannot wait to see comments on them!

Enjoy the rest of the weekend! :)
